The Scientific Advisory Council of MTF is composed of leading representatives in the field of medical technology and is tasked with advising the association on research‑strategic matters within medical technology.

Maria Asplund

Dr Maria Asplund leads a research group in bioelectronic microtechnology at the University of Freiburg in Germany and is also a visiting professor at Luleå University of Technology.
Her research focuses on implantable microsystems, neurotechnology, and regenerative bioelectronics. She serves as an Academic Editor for PLOS ONE and Scientific Reports, and is a Senior Fellow at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies.

Per Augustsson

Dr Per Augustsson leads a research group at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Lund University. His research is primarily focused on developing miniaturised ultrasound technology for manipulating cells and biological nanoparticles in suspensions.

Andreas Fhager

Dr Andreas Fhager leads the Biomedical Electromagnetics research group at Chalmers University of Technology. His research focuses on developing microwave‑based techniques for medical diagnosis and treatment. Key applications include stroke, trauma and cancer diagnostics, as well as cancer therapy using focused hyperthermia.

Håkan Gustafsson

Dr Håkan Gustafsson is the Deputy Director of the Centre for Medical Image Science and Visualisation (CMIV) at Linköping University and the AI Coordinator for Region Östergötland. His work focuses on research and development in medical image science and the medical applications of artificial intelligence

Maria Tenje

Prof. Maria Tenje leads a research group at Uppsala University that develops alternatives to animal testing based on cell cultures grown in micro‑structured biological materials.
She is the Head of the Division of Medical Engineering and is also actively involved in Uppsala University’s centre formation, the MedTech Science & Innovation Centre.
