Dr. Elizabeth Dean is Professor Emeritus, in the Department of Physical Therapy, Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Her academic and clinical careers have spanned the “corners of the globe” with invitations to over 35 countries. She has convened four Physical Therapy Summits on Global Health with international teams. Dr. Dean has authored over 150 publications, multiple chapters, and is co-editor and contributing author with Dr. Donna Frownfelter, of ‘Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy: Evidence to Practice’ now going into its 6th edition as an electronic as well as print edition (In press). In 1997 and 1998, she served as the Senior Therapist for the Cardiovascular and Respiratory Team with the Kuwait Dalhousie Project in Kuwait and continues to collaborate with Kuwait University. In 2001, she was a resident Visiting Professor with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She holds Adjunct and Guest Professorships with the University of Iceland, Malardalen University in Sweden, and Manipal University in Bangalore, India, Her clinical practice focuses on maximizing people’s health particularly those with multi-morbidity. Dr. Dean has been committed to establishing health competencies as fundamental competencies in physical therapist practice worldwide.
