Acute and Chronic Heart Failure in Focus – Göran Dellgren on Berzelius Symposium 111

From 11 to 13 March, the Swedish Society of Medicine, together with the Swedish Association for Thoracic Surgery, will host Berzelius Symposium 111 – Acute and Chronic Heart Failure – a multidisciplinary meeting on the future of heart failure care.

The symposium brings together leading national and international experts to highlight and discuss the latest advances in diagnostics, treatment, and prognosis in both acute and chronic heart failure. Over three days, participants will be offered a comprehensive programme featuring case-based discussions, expert lectures, and panel debates where specialists from different fields meet to address complex clinical challenges.

– Acute and chronic heart failure remain areas with significant potential for improvement in terms of treatment outcomes and long-term prognosis, says Göran Dellgren, Senior Consultant and Professor at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Transplantation Centre at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, as well as Chair of the Swedish Association for Thoracic Surgery.

He particularly emphasises that heart failure patients often require multidisciplinary care, making education and coordination across healthcare levels especially important.

– The multidisciplinary approach needs to be strengthened. Otherwise, patients risk falling between the cracks and may not gain access to the latest treatment advances.

A Symposium Bringing Together Leading Expertise

Berzelius Symposium is one of Sweden’s most prestigious scientific meetings, known for its high academic standard and as a forum where knowledge can truly be deepened.

– This symposium gathers Swedish and international expertise in both chronic and acute heart failure and should not be missed, says Göran Dellgren.

The programme includes new treatment strategies for chronic heart failure, ways to strengthen the care pathway in collaboration with primary care, as well as current challenges in acute heart failure management.

– Treatment of chronic heart failure and its interaction with primary care, as well as the management of acute heart failure, are crucial areas that many professionals need to be familiar with, he adds.

For Many Professions – With the Patient at the Centre

The symposium is aimed at cardiologists, internists, general practitioners, thoracic surgeons, anaesthesiologists, intensive care physicians, as well as other healthcare professionals with an interest in heart failure.

– All disciplines, from primary care physicians to hospital-based specialties such as cardiology and internal medicine, have much to gain from attending, says Göran Dellgren.

The goal is for participants to receive both a broad update and practical tools to bring back to their own clinical settings.

– Attendees will gain an overview of all the options available for patients with severe heart failure and will be inspired to improve multidisciplinary care.

Göran Dellgren hopes that as many as possible will take the opportunity to participate in the symposium.

– We have put together a multidisciplinary meeting with the most renowned Swedish and international researchers in the field. Since this is a one-time event, we truly hope everyone will take the chance to register and attend.

A Warm Welcome to Berzelius Symposium 111!
