Description:
Across Europe, patient-accessible electronic health records (EHRs) are becoming more prevalent, and in countries with mature implementations, like Sweden, they are integral to the delivery of care. Patient-accessible EHRs allow patients the opportunities to access, review, and engage with their own health information. Yet, research has shown that experiences and preferences with these systems are not uniform across populations. Gender, in particular, may shape how patients interact with the EHR, potentially influencing further healthcare experiences.

This webinar presents findings from the study “The Gender Gap in EHR Experiences and Preferences: Results from an International Cross-Sectional Survey of Patients” (Kharko et al., 2025). The seminar will be delivered by Anna Kharko, PhD, Researcher at Uppsala University, and Research Associate at the University of Manchester, whose work focuses on patient safety, digital health, and the use of patient-accessible EHRs. Dr. Kharko will outline key results from the study, discuss their implications for healthcare design and policy, and reflect on how gender-sensitive approaches can improve engagement with digital health records.
